We are meeting at the Dirty Duck in Woolsthorpe by Belvoir. NG32 1NY
The Grantham Canal was built between 1793 and 1798, to link the River Trent to Grantham.
BToday the group of three locks at Woolsthorpe is just part of the canal carefully being restored to full navigation.
Rosemary will tell us the story of canals in general and the Grantham Canal in particular; a bit about working life in the day and what Grantham Canal Society are doing to maintain and restore this valuable part of our historic and environmental heritage. They have been very busy over the last few years, having received lottery funding towards restoring the locks in the Woolsthorpe Flight near Belvoir. Rosemary is also providing refreshments and will show us an exhibition of old photographs and restoration progress.
