The medieval village of Welby is no more, all that remains is the beautiful little church dedicated to St Bartholomew, which is grade 1 listed and thought to have been built in the latter part of the 12th Century and also some substantial earthworks which reveal the extent of the medieval settlement which is no longer there. Whilst they might seem to be in the middle of nowhere; close by is a huge business park which at one time was going to be the entrance to the coal mine running under the Vale of Belvoir.
Alan has researched and written the history of the village for the new edition of the Victoria County History for Leicestershire.
Cost is £5 and includes a glass of wine.
